Where did you transfer from? Schoolcraft College
Why did you choose to transfer to the University of Michigan? I chose the University of Michigan because I have heard so many great things about the classes, involvement around campus, the opportunities to network, and how beautiful the area of Ann Arbor is. I was born and raised most of my life in Michigan so what an honor it is to represent the University of Michigan as a Michigander! I’m honored and proud to be a Wolverine. GO BLUE!
Based on your personal experience, what is the one thing you want to tell new transfer students? Through my experiences as a transfer student in the University of Michigan, the one thing I recommend new transfer students is to come with joy, excitement, and resilience. The university gives many opportunities to be involved with many great and fun things to do and don’t forget to work hard and play hard.
How did you make friends and meet other students on campus? I mainly made friends through classes and clubs. I have also met amazing people through tutoring spaces like the Math Lab.
What is your favorite part about being an LSA transfer student? My favorite part of being a LSA transfer student is the opportunity it provides me for being a transfer student. In addition, how I get to meet so many amazing people that are also transfer students and get to know their experience in LSA. Overall, we all share similar experiences which makes no transfer student feel left out.
What do you know now that you wish you had known before transferring to the University of Michigan? The one thing I wish I had known before transferring is to not let the university overwhelm me. The way they teach, the assignments, and the exams are different compared to other places, which made me feel I did not belong here and made me doubt myself many times. If only I knew this before transferring. I should have not compared myself to others and not let imposter syndrome take over my thoughts.
Why did you choose your specific major(s)? I chose economics because I like to work with numbers. I wanted to pick a degree where it is broad enough to open many doors in finance, accounting, and many other roles. I also want to become more aware of the economy to be able to teach and help others that don’t understand it or didn’t get the opportunity to pursue higher education. I want to especially be able to give back to the community in Southwest Detroit.
