Major: Sociology - Law, Justice and Social Change
Hometown: Windsor, Ontario, Canada
Where did you transfer from? University of Western Ontario
Based on your personal experience, what is the one thing you want to tell new transfer students? I wish I knew that it’s normal to feel a little lost at first. Everyone finds their footing at different times, and it’s okay not to have everything figured out the second you arrive. Once I gave myself time to explore the campus and connect with others, things started to fall into place, but it took time.
How did you make friends and meet other students on campus? Honestly, my biggest tip is just put yourself out there, it feels scary at first but it’s so worth it. I met some of my friends at orientation, the transfer student reception, and especially through clubs (or even just talking to random people around campus).
What is your favorite part about being an LSA transfer student? My favorite part about being an LSA transfer student is the opportunity to connect with so many different people and take advantage of all the resources that come with being both an LSA and a Michigan student.
What do you know now that you wish you had known before transferring to the University of Michigan? I wish I knew how large and supportive the transfer community is here. At first, I thought there wouldn’t be many people in a similar situation to mine, but it turned out to be the complete opposite!
Why did you choose your specific major(s)? I’m on a pre-law track, and I chose to major in Sociology with a subplan in Law, Justice, and Social Change because I’m really interested in how law interacts with communities and impacts people’s lives. The bonus is that Michigan sociology and its faculty are among the best!
