Where did you transfer from? Ivy Tech Community College - Bloomington

Why did you choose to transfer to the University of Michigan? I transferred to Michigan for its top-tier International Studies program, rich opportunities, and strong support for transfers. I want to attend a university where I feel welcomed and can find a true sense of community, and I’ve found that at U-M. It makes a huge difference to feel like you matter here, not just another face, but a valued student.

Based on your personal experience, what is the one thing you want to tell new transfer students? Transferring, especially when you’ve already put down roots, is an act of courage. If it feels hard or a little terrifying to start again, remember: change is scary because it’s new, not because you cannot handle it. Give yourself grace as you’re navigating through it. 

How did you make friends and meet other students on campus? I enrolled in ALA 171, signed up for a peer mentor, and showed up to Transfer Connections events. I also went to other campus events like heritage month so I could meet students (transfer or not).

What is your favorite part about being an LSA transfer student? My favorite part is the transfer community at LSA filled with smart, supportive students who are ready to make an impact. It’s exciting to grow alongside people who get the transfer journey and cheer each other on.

What do you know now that you wish you'd known before transferring to the University of Michigan? I wish I’d known, as a prospective student, that I could connect with a transfer mentor before I even got to campus.

Why did you choose your specific major(s)? I chose International Studies because I’m pursuing a humanitarian career and don’t want to be locked into one narrow track. There’s a lot I hope to do supporting community development locally and in under-resourced countries, and working with natural disaster survivors on relief and long-term recovery. With this major I can learn the tools and context I need while staying flexible enough to serve in different settings and roles as needs arise in the future.
