Pre-health advising is a resource for students and alumni who are exploring, preparing, and applying to health professional programs.
Pre-Health advising is process-oriented and is aimed at helping students develop the necessary skills to become well-rounded future applicants to health professions graduate programs.
We encourage you to explore different health care professions, to gain experience through shadowing and volunteering, and find what you are passionate about. Your pre-health journey may look different than your classmate and that is okay! There is no “right way” to be pre-health. The joy is in the journey.
**Please note: 1:1 Advising appointments are booking 2-3 weeks out; please plan accordingly. Advisors are not able to accomodate additional appointment requests. Having trouble seeing all available times? Please connect with the Newnan Front Desk.
Virtual Pre-Health Drop-in advising provides support for all students of any class standing, regardless of school/college affiliation. NOTE: There are no drops ins on the following days:
Wednesday, November 27th - Friday, November 29th (for Thanksgiving Break Recess)
Monday, December 9th
Tuesday, December 24th - Wednesday, January 1st (for Winter Break Recess)
We offer virtual drop-in advising hours every day of the week, Monday through Friday, 2:00-3:00 p.m. These short 5-10 minute meetings are designed to answer quick questions and provide support, information, and resources to pre-health students. Our pre-health team meets with students individually on a first-come, first-served basis. Advisors strive to see all students waiting in the queue on any given day, so even if you must wait a few minutes before being admitted to your appointment, we will make every effort to talk to each student. Your questions are important to us, and we are here to help.
First-years should meet with a general advisor early in their career at Michigan. Talk with your general advisor about your interests as a pre-health student. They are equipped to support you as you make your initial choices for courses on the pre-health path and direct you to ways you can get involved outside the classroom.
After meeting with a general advisor, you may be referred to pre-health advising for more detailed information about the specific path you’re interested in. Pre-health advisors are here to help you navigate the complexities of the application processes for various health professions.
If you haven’t met with a general advisor yet, you must before scheduling an appointment with a pre-health advisor.
Appointments are available for scheduling online. We encourage you to meet with a pre-health advisor to discuss your trajectory on the pre-health path.
Honors students, please schedule advising appointments with Honors.
LSA Alumni are eligible to schedule an appointment. To do so, please complete the form under "other advising types."
Essay Support: LSA students and alumni can schedule an appointment with a Pre-Health advisor to brainstorm ideas and discuss the key components of a personal statement and other application materials. Please select “Essay Brainstorming” as your reason for the appointment when scheduling. Note: Advisors in the Newnan LSA Advising Center are here to provide supplemental support, not edits of written work. If you are looking additional essay resources, please read our page on Personal statements, statements of interest, or graduate school application essays.
If you are not an LSA student or alumni, please contact your school or college to determine if there is a dedicated pre-health advisor available to help you. Note: all students are welcome to attend our Pre-Health Drop-In advising as well as our programs and events.
