The National Center for Institutional Diversity (NCID) at the University of Michigan (U-M) represents a commitment to affirm the central value of diversity, equity, and inclusion in the nation’s communities, institutions, and society. To that end, grants to support research and scholarship for change are available to members of the U-M community to support their work on innovative projects that will positively impact academia and society.
The current US sociopolitical climate necessitates rigorous interrogation of social issues. As such, in an effort to support research and scholarship for social change within the context of power, privilege, and oppression, the NCID invites grant applications relevant to ongoing social and political issues. Examples of relevant topics include but are not limited to: voter rights and voter suppression; civic engagement; political attitudes and ideologies; healthcare; climate change and climate activism; LGBTQ+ identity and oppression; race and racism; immigration and immigration policy; reproductive and women’s rights; social movements and social change; foreign policy and war; education access and reform; media literacy and consumption; and public policy. All submissions, regardless of the topic, must explicitly align with the NCID’s framework for diversity scholarship.
Of particular interest are projects that are interdisciplinary, that cross disciplinary boundaries in terms of theory or methodology, and/or involve interdisciplinary collaborators.
These grants are offered annually for a one-year duration and applicants may apply for up to $5,000 in funding.
