“This summer, I had the opportunity to intern with the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) at their office in Nairobi, Kenya. I was placed in the Equitable Financing Practice (EQF) under the Policy, Advocacy and Knowledge branch. The EQF practice works on ensuring that the global and national HIV responses are resilient, progressive and equitable in addressing urgent and future needs by generating evidence-based tools, evidence and advocacy with the ultimate goal of ending AIDS as a public health threat. This includes advancing resource mobilization and sustainable financing, integrating HIV into broader health systems and social protection frameworks, ensuring equitable access to health technologies, and promoting efficiency and long-term sustainability in HIV investments. EQF also strengthens the role of community-led responses, supports monitoring of spending and resource needs, and enhances data-driven decision making to ensure inclusive resilient systems that leave no one behind.”
