"Living in Belfast over the summer has given me invaluable insight on what I want my future career to look like. Over eight weeks, I attended various conferences and meetings where I met and discussed a large array of topics regarding conflict and healing after violence ends. I focused on a project regarding the international dispute settlement procedure laid out in the Withdrawal Agreement in order to analyze the legal enforceability of human rights protections post Brexit.
Speaking with people who grew up during the Troubles, and seeing in my own neighborhood how the violence still affects the community, I learned how fragile peace is. I have compared the modern U.S political division with that of the political and sectarian division that is visible in Belfast today. I have been privileged to never personally experience violence, and although I keep up with the news, it has always felt like such a foreign idea. But this summer has changed my life."
