The African Studies Center (ASC) sponsors conferences, lectures, exhibits, film series, and cultural performances throughout the year. These events are designed to foster understanding of Africa among members of the U-M community and the public and to advance the exchange of resources and knowledge between U-M and its partners in Africa.

With Sean Jacobs (New School) "South Africa and the Question of the Global South"
Bio: Sean Jacobs is Professor and Director of the Graduate Program in International Affairs at The New School in New York. He was assistant professor of Afroamerican and African Studies and Communication Studies at the University of Michigan between 2005 and 2009. He founded Africa Is a Country. Jacobs was born and grew up in Cape Town, South Africa.
