LEAD GLOBALLY
BLI Peace Leadership Fellowship:
Global Peace Leadership Experience in Japan
Overview: A select group of 10 students will join BLI Director and Mindful Leadership Researcher Ram Mahalingam and the BLI Mindful Leader Fellowship program manager on a three-week, immersive leadership journey in Japan.
The Japan Peace Leadership program is both immersive and experiential, providing undergraduate students the opportunity to observe and learn about peace studies, mindfulness, and contemplative practices through the social-cultural-political and economic frameworks of Japan.
This experiential learning opportunity will take place at several locations, including the Peace Culture Village in Hiroshima prefecture, a Zen Buddhist monastery in the mountains outside of Osaka, and the Research Center for Nuclear Weapons Abolition in Nagasaki. The experience will offer classroom workshops on peace-building, mindfulness, and conflict resolution, along with additional program activities.
Dates: The BLI was unable to offer the 2023 Spring Global Peace Leadership Travel Experience to Japan. While we were unable to travel previously due to COVID-19 related restrictions, our ability to offer this program in the Spring of 2023 was directly related to the changes in student enrollment requirements for Spring semester. As this experience is currently not a credit-bearing course, it is impossible for us to fund student travel in a way that is equitable and accessible.
