The Barger Leadership Institute provides multiple opportunities for students to engage with like-minded peers and mentors through our selection of leadership courses.
ALA 174: Leadership Lab. If you love being hands-on and want to get a chance to build a team that is interested in the same topic as you, explore leadership habits, and celebrate small wins, then this is the course for you! This 1-credit mini-course offered in the fall term will provide you with a great opportunity to develop your leadership skills.
ALA 275: Foundations of Leadership and Followership. What is leadership? What is followership? This 3-credit course offered in the winter course will help you build a leadership and followership “toolkit” that’s based on your values, skills, abilities, visions, and personal style.
ALA 170: Social Transformation. Do you have a passion project that you want to pursue? The Social Transformation Fellowship (STF) will help you to jumpstart that journey! ALA 170 allows you to test and develop your ideas in a supportive environment!
ALA 370: Mindfulness and Peace Global Leadership. Are you interested in exploring mindfulness and Peace Leadership in an immersive experience abroad? This course is set in a living-learning community in Japan, where students will experience the country’s contemplative arts, aesthetics, and Buddhist practices, gaining a holistic understanding of mindfulness from a cultural and humanities perspective.
ALA 275 and 174 fulfill all or part of the Leadership Certificate LEARNING experience.
