Reporting Student Names

Who is the Dean's Designee for the College of LSA?

Senior Health & Safety Advisor Rachel Reuter (reuterra@umich.edu).

My student(s) already confirmed with me that they have completed the requirements. Do I still need to report their names to the LSA Travel office?

Yes. Many students often believe that they have completed the requirements needed to go abroad, but often have actually only registered their travel but not finished any of the other items. Additionally, it is essential that all students are reported to the LSA Travel office for overall reporting and data gathering at the College-level.

How will I know if students in my department are traveling internationally?

We don’t know what we don’t know. However, as LSA administrators, it is our responsibility to do our best to find travelers and notify them of the policy requirements within our own department. How you choose to educate your students, staff and faculty and track their travel is up to you, but ultimately Chief Administrators (or their designee) need to send a list of travelers within their department to LSATravel as they learn of them. Additionally, any traveler that meets the requirements of UM-RT (University of Michigan Related Travel) should be sent to the LSA Travel office both for reporting and verification purposes.

A student in my department is traveling abroad but receiving funding from another LSA department, do I still need to report them?

In most cases, the LSA unit that is issuing the funding will report the students since they fall under the definition of UMRT. However, if you are not sure, please send the names along anyway. When in doubt, we’d rather have to sort through duplicates than let students slip through the cracks and go abroad without coverage.

My department is organizing a research program in _______ where students from other UM colleges and other institutions will attend. Since they aren’t LSA students, I don’t need to report them, right?

No, any person that falls under the definition of UMRT needs to be reported. This includes non LSA students and persons who may be non-UM affiliates. Questions about this can be addressed to Rachel Reuter at reuterra@umich.edu.

Verification

How will I know when my students have completed the requirements?

When students have completed the requirements, their names will be added to this Google Sheet: http://bit.ly/LSATravelCompleted. This list is updated at least 3x/week during the busy travel season (Feb - June).

Misc

Can you come and talk to my students, staff and/or faculty who are traveling abroad about the benefits of insurance, how to stay safe, what to do in an emergency, etc?

Of course! We do pre-departure orientations for individuals and groups all of the time. Please email Rachel Reuter at reuterra@umich.edu for more information.

Can the LSA Travel office invoice departments / units if they wish to cover the cost of the health insurance for their travelers?

Yes. Please email LSATravel@umich.edu for instructions.

I have questions about my student’s M-Compass registration, who should I contact?

We have set up a general email account in order to simplify matters as much as possible. Please email LSATravel@umich.edu with any M-Compass or Travel registry questions.
