My experience in MES has been largely determined by my Arabic classes. I took Arabic all eight semesters, and this played a great role in determining my future career. Being able to speak Arabic opened up internship and volunteering opportunities with immigrants and refugees in the surrounding area. Because of this, I became greatly interested in the current refugee crisis. Moreover, my interest in the Arabic language was supplemented with MES classes that addressed the culture and history of the Middle East, which is a region that was not often discussed in high school.
After I graduate, I will be moving to Pittsburgh and partaking in the Coro Fellowship. This fellowship provides fellows with the opportunity to partake in public service for a year, and I am hoping to be able to continue utilizing my Arabic. After this, I plan to return to graduate school and obtain a dual degree in law and public policy or international affairs with a focus on the Middle East.
