Wanhan Xing

Wanhan is a third-year Ph.D. student in the History Department whose research is grounded in the material culture of eleventh-century China and Japan. Wanhan's current research interests include the concepts of time, space, and the senses, and Wanhan hopes to examine material culture at different scales alongside thinking about these concepts.

During the fellowship year, Wanhan will prepare for preliminary examinations while also developing a dissertation project on decorated letter paper in eleventh-century East Asia. Wanhan is excited about the potential of placing this project in dialogue with broader historical contexts – both temporally and geographically speaking – while learning from scholars from different backgrounds at the Eisenberg.
