The Eisenberg Institute for Historical Studies will award up to six Graduate Student Research Fellowships in the amount of $6,000 each for the 2026-27 academic year. These fellowships are awarded on a competitive basis. They aim to assist outstanding graduate students in pursuing their research. This fellowship program has been funded by a generous gift from Kenneth and Frances Aftel Eisenberg.
The institute invites applications from University of Michigan graduate students in History and joint-History programs who are entering at least their second year of graduate training.
Graduate Fellows form a core part of the institute community and are expected to participate in institute events. Graduate Fellows will collaborate in designing and organizing the Friday workshops presented in 2026-27. Fellows will convene in April or May 2026, shortly after the awards have been announced, to begin the planning process. In-person participation is expected at all institute meetings and events.
This application is due March 6, 2026. Link below for additional details. Submit application components via email (eisenberginstitute@umich.edu).
