About
Jacob Lederman is a scholar of cities, politics, and governance and serves as Director of UM-Flint’s Institute for Society and Technology. He is interested in the consequences of technology change on urban politics, inequality, and economic development. His current book project explores the history and influence of the urban planning concept of placemaking.
As part of his work with UM-Flint’s Institute for Society and Technology, Lederman is leading the development of a representative survey on “gig work” in Flint and Genesee County. In collaboration with colleagues at UM-Ann Arbor’s Detroit Metro Area Communities Study (DMACS), the project investigates the prevalence and uptake of gig economy work, worker satisfaction, and the forms of inequality emerging in this sector of the labor market.
