The Spurs started off strong, leading the Knicks by nearly 20 points by the end of Quarter 1, their best early lead since the start of the Finals. Between Wembenyama's consistency and the aggressive Spurs defense, the Knicks were struggling to find their footing for the first half of the game. Despite this, they remained "resilient", as OG describes himself, and through the second half the Knicks manage to close the deficit and fight for the win.
Following a well-placed floater by point guard Jalen Brunson, the Knicks take their first lead of the game with less than 2 minutes remaining, and the Spurs are forced to respond. A fowl from the Knicks gives the Spurs another chance for the lead, and Stephon Castle secures it by knocking down both free throws, putting the Spurs up by one point. Both teams exchange possession after two unsuccessful layup attempts, and with 5 seconds remaining, Brunson receives a Knicks inbound to try and clutch the win. He releases a shot from 3-point, but the ball hits the back of the rim—it's a missed shot. But Anunoby flies in and leaps for the ball, managing to tip Brunson's rebound back into the net and winning the game at 1.2 seconds remaining.
With that, the Knicks can now claim the greatest comeback in Playoff history, and are just one win away from their first championship win in over 50 years.
