ONSF is committed to integrating the University’s commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in every area of our mission.
The selection of scholarships and fellowships that ONSF fully supports and promotes. ONSF selects opportunities that are broadly accessible, even if highly selective, and committed to diversity and inclusivity. When opportunities are limited by eligibility factors such as citizenship, we strive to provide inclusive alternatives. We seek to build commitment to the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion into the selection process for U-M awards and nomination selection processes.
The information provided to students regarding ONSF opportunities. We strive to make sure that all eligible students at U-M have equitable access to quality information and advising. This involves providing inclusive and inviting stories on our website, broad access to information about scholarships and fellowships, and intentional outreach to populations traditionally underrepresented in these competitions who might not seek out ONSF opportunities on their own.
Advising and mentoring individual students. ONSF staff is committed to the highest standards of inclusive communication and advising practices. Our goal is to create personal connections with students from all backgrounds to help them articulate their educational, career, and personal goals.
Nomination and selection process. ONSF strives to create equitable select processes for scholarships requiring U-M nomination, including ensuring that our faculty nomination committees are appropriately diverse, that they are working from explicit rubrics, and strive to eliminate unconscious bias. We are also committed to making sure that both letter writers and selection committee members are aware of issues of implicit bias in letters of recommendation.
