About
Motor proteins are molecular machines that power cellular movement. The DeSantis lab studies mechanisms of how microtobule associated motor proteins transport cellular cargo. We ask questions like "How do motor proteins move?", "How are motor proteins' activities controlled in cells?", and "Why are many neurodevelopmental diseases associated with motor misfunction?". We use a broad range of techniques including single molecule TIRF microscopy, live-cell fluorescence microscopy, and cryo electron microscopy.
