Services for Students with Disabilities

The Services for Students with Disabilities office (SSD) is pleased to announce the implementation of Accommodate, a core electronic case management system that will assist students, faculty, instructors, and staff in requesting, approving, and implementing disability-related accommodations.

 

The Newnan LSA Academic Advising Center

Newnan advisors support students as they navigate college life both inside and outside of the classroom. We answer questions about college policies that impact course scheduling, grading, and meeting requirements. Advisors can help students to understand the LSA Degree Requirements and create a plan to explore all the liberal arts has to offer.

We’re always happy to get students connected to resources and opportunities to make the most of their time at Michigan.

 

Sweetland Center for Writing

The Sweetland Center for Writing, a comprehensive writing center, exists to support student writing at all levels and in all forms and modes. Sweetland oversees the College of LSA’s First-Year and Upper-Level writing requirements, offers one-to-one tutoring for undergraduate and graduate students in our faculty-led Writing Workshop and undergraduate Peer Writing Center, and teaches writing courses from the undergraduate to the graduate level. Sweetland provides support for all multilingual and international undergraduate students.

Language Resource Center (LRC)

The Language Resource Center (LRC) is a unit within LSA that supports faculty, staff, and students involved in the study of languages, literatures, and cultures at the University of Michigan. The LRC is located on the first floor of North Quad, with the media library and diverse resources for students, faculty, and staff, with spaces for group and independent study, computer workstations, and computer classrooms (PC and Mac) for practicing communication skills. They also provide language tutors and conversation partners.

 

Math Lab

The Math Lab offers FREE walk-in tutoring service for U-M students for courses up to Math 217.

 

Science Learning Center

The Science Learning Center (SLC) is an interdisciplinary resource center sponsored by the College of Literature, Science and the Arts (LSA) to support teaching and learning in the natural sciences at the University of Michigan. The natural science disciplines at the U of M include astronomy, biology, biophysics, chemistry, earth and environmental sciences and physics

The Science Learning Center offer peer facilitated study groups in the following courses: Biology 171, 172, 225, 305; Chemistry 130, 210, 215, 215HH, 230, 260/261, 351; Math 156; MCDB 310, 322; Physics 140, 150, 240, 250.

They also offer online and in person individual tutoring in the following courses: Biology 171 and 172, Chemistry 130, 210, and 215.

 

Physics Help Room

This room is staffed by Graduate Student Instructors who can help students with introductory physics courses: Physics 150/151; 250/251; 140/141; 240/241.

 

Engineering Advising Center

The Engineering Advising Center (EAC) provides academic services and support for first year and undeclared students through in-person appointments and online drop-in consultations. Services include 

  • Academic advising

  • Personal counseling

  • Career exploration

  • Goal setting

  • Workshops to facilitate student success

 

The Career Center

Career Center services include:

  • Individual advising appointments with Career Coaches

  • Pre-law, Pre-med, and Pre-health guidance and resources

  • Resume and internship workshops

  • Mock interviews

  • Access to Handshake, an online network that links U-M students to employers hiring for internships and permanent positions

  • Job, Internship and Graduate School Fairs for fields ranging from medicine to education

 

LSA Opportunity Hub

The University of Michigan’s LSA Opportunity Hub is a transformative career exploration center for undergraduate students of the liberal arts and sciences.The Hub works with students as they develop their aspirations and professional identities, provides access to internships and funding to support those experiences, and connects them to employers and U-M’s extensive network of alums. The Hub believes in the power of a liberal arts education and designs opportunities for engagement so that all students can pursue purposeful work and meaningful lives.

The Hub offers numerous opportunities for students, including

 

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)

CAPS services are free, confidential and available to currently enrolled students.  The staff includes social workers, psychologists, and psychiatrists from diverse backgrounds with regard to race/ethnicity, country of origin, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, age, professional discipline, theoretical orientations and intervention approaches.  CAPS services include:

  • Counseling for individuals, couples and groups

  • Crisis walk-in availability

  • Psychiatric evaluations and medication monitoring

  • Outreach and educational events and workshops

  • QPR Suicide Prevention Program

  • Campus crisis response team

  • Assistance with referrals to other campus and community resources

 

Sexual Assault Prevention and Awareness Center (SAPAC)

SAPAC serves as a resource for those who have been victims of sexual misconduct, and a center for educating the general public about the realities of sexual assault on campus. SAPAC commits to promoting social change and activism through the professional services that they provide, and through student leadership development that enables students to help their peers. SAPAC staff and student leaders provide free and confidential crisis intervention, advocacy, and support for survivors of sexual assault, intimate partner violence, stalking, and sexual harassment to the entire University of Michigan community.

University Health Services (UHS)

UHS offers a variety of health services.  Most costs are covered by the health service fee that students pay as part of tuition.  UHS welcomes students for urgent care walk-in appointments or pre-arranged clinic appointments for the following specializations:

  • Allergies & Immunizations

  • Eye Care

  • Gynecology

  • Nutrition

  • Pharmacy

  • Physical Therapy

  • Radiology

The mission of Wolverine Wellness is to partner with students to foster personal and community well-being in college and beyond. They offer many services to students, including

 

Campus Climate Support

A group of professional staff members in the Dean of Students Office provides Campus Climate Support (CCS) and focuses on addressing concerns that may create harm to members of the University community based on their identity. The CCS staff is committed to providing support for students who may have been targets of or affected by campus climate concerns. CCS works to ensure that appropriate University resources and expertise are made available to any student who feels they have been harmed or negatively impacted. Any student who feels they have been affected by a campus climate concern is encouraged to make a report to CCS, so the University can offer assistance.

 

First Generation Students

It takes courage and determination to break new ground and try new things, to be FIRST. The First Generation Student Gateway serves as a starting point to get connected to resources for first-generation students. Housed in the Office of Academic Multicultural Initiatives (OAMI), the Gateway is linked to several partner offices and is a home for support for first-generation students.

Multi-Ethnic Student Affairs

The Office of Multi-Ethnic Student Affairs (MESA) provides support and programming through celebrations, educational offerings, and building social capital through the lens of race and ethnicity.

 

Council for Disability Concerns

The University of Michigan Council for Disability Concerns works towards creating a community that respects disability, honors individual needs, and makes everything accessible.

 

Association of Religious Counselors

The Association of Religious Counselors (ARC) is an independent association of representatives from religious and spiritual communities that serve the students, staff, and faculty of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Committed to the central role of religion and spirituality in the development of the whole human being - body, heart, mind, and soul - ARC advocates for the religious, spiritual, and ethical dimensions of university life.
