Dr. Benjamin A. Peters is Director of the Global Scholars Program and a Faculty Associate at the Center for Japanese Studies at the University of Michigan.
Benjie lived and worked in Japan for fourteen years where he served as Professor of Political Science, Dean of the School of International Liberal Arts, and Vice President of Miyazaki International University.
He holds degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (B.A.), the University of Washington (M.A.I.S.), and Rutgers University (Ph.D.), and his research and writing are in the field of peace studies, specifically the politics of peace in Japan and Costa Rica and communicative practices of peace. In his free time, he serves on the Board of Directors of ALPHA Education, a Canadian nonprofit that runs the Asia Pacific Peace Museum in Toronto.
Benjie recently celebrated his 25th wedding anniversary and is the proud father of three.
