Welcome to the Global Scholars Program(GSP)!

GSP is an interdisciplinary living-learning community that brings together students from around the world to engage in social justice education on a global level. We invite applications from students of all backgrounds and levels of intercultural experience and from any college or school at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor.

Application for academic year 2025-2026 and Winter 2025 now open

Eligibility

  • Admission to any one of U-M schools and colleges on Ann Arbor Campus 
  • A valid UMID and UNIQNAME is required to apply
  • Completion of at least one year of college (at U-M or another institution) by the beginning of the term or year for which you are applying.
  • A strong interest in integrating global scholarship into your college experience
  • Enthusiasm for intercultural exchange. 
  • Prior intercultural or international experience is not a prerequisite.

Requirements

  • Commitment to at least 1 academic year of participation.  Students may apply for Fall-only or Winter-only in certain cases (e.g. transferring to U-M in Winter, exchange students on campus for one semester only, Students studying abroad)
  • .Commitment to live in North Quad on one of GSP designated floors.
  • A separate application to University Housing is required to secure a room in North Quad. Please visit the Housing website for more information. Click here for information on current Housing Rates.
  • Enrollment in a GSP course (ALA 210/211);  Fall Semester (ALA210): Defining Critical Global Issues;  Winter Semester (ALA211): Addressing Critical Global Issues.  Fridays 1:00-2:30 p.m.
  • Participation in weekly Collaborative Group meetings (One evening: Mon-Thurs.7:00-8:30pm).
  • Active engagement in class, including dialogues, and the year-long Global Engagement Internship are necessary for continued membership in GSP and residence in NQ on GSP floors
  • Presentation of your Collaborative Group’s Global Engagement Internship at GSP’s Global Engagement Symposium in April.

The Global Scholars Program affirms the university’s support and advocacy for the many undocumented or DACA students on our campus. Consistent with federal and state law, DACA students and those without proof of citizenship are welcome to seek admission and enrollment at U-M and to apply for membership in the Global Scholars Program.
