Fern Conaghan is a doctoral student of Film, Television, and Media at the University of Michigan. She is trained as both an early film historian and a digital media theorist, with a B.A. in Film and Literature and an M.A. for Research in Film and Television Studies from the University of Warwick. Fern researches the history of holography, exploring the complex relationship between the scientifically authentic hologram and its illusory counterpart within popular culture. Her work is situated at the intersection of film and media historiography, new media theory, materiality, and Science, Technology, and Society studies. Her previous work on MyHeritage’s ‘Deep Nostalgia’ and the digitally manipulated photographic image has appeared in Convergence.
