The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) supports 260 new humanities projects nationwide, including programs at small museums, conservation research and training, education initiatives, scholarly research, and humanities infrastructure.

This year, NEH announced the University of Michigan will receive $210,000 to support four research and writing fellowships, two of which are International Institute faculty affiliates. Congratulations to all the award recipients!

Project Title: Genres of Muslim Modernity: Being Muslim in Late-Colonial India, 1858–1947
Project Description: Research and writing leading to a book on the Urdu-language religious and literary texts known as akhlaq, focused on their role in defining a tradition of Muslim ethics.

Fellowship: $60,000
University of Michigan, Ann Arbor
Project Title: Persian Anthology: Reading Along the Margins
Project Description: Research and writing leading to a critical digital edition and translation of a seventeenth-century Persian law anthology.
