The Center for Middle Eastern and North African Studies is pleased to announce that eight students have completed degrees in our undergraduate and graduate programs. The new CMENAS alumni are:

MASTER OF ARTS

Leila Abdelrazaq
Ahmed Mitiche
Asma Noray
Dahlia Petrus
Justin Stucki
Leah Squires

BACHELOR OF ARTS

Refael Kubersky
Selin Levi

We would like to especially recognize Leila Abdelrazaq for her outstanding MA thesis, which treats Palestinian futurist art, and how Palestinian futurisms reflect shifting (post)national imaginaries of liberation. It was recently awarded the Mahfoud Bennoune Memorial Thesis Award. This award was established in memory of Dr. Mahfoud Bennoune, a beloved Algerian professor, author, teacher, human rights advocate, and father, who studied at the University of Michigan. Leila’s thesis emphasizes the values that Dr. Bennoune fought for, including tolerance, secularism, human rights, and women’s rights. Congratulations Leila for this outstanding achievement

Although we were unable to celebrate our graduates in person this year, the commencement speech and details about CMENAS and other graduates of the International Institute can be found here.
