Grace Zanotti has been awarded a Rackham Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor Award!
The Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor Awards recognize the efforts and accomplishments of GSIs who demonstrate extraordinary dedication and excellence as teachers. Faculty members are encouraged to nominate graduate students who display the highest levels of commitment, creativity and skill in the classroom.
Grace Zanotti is a doctoral candidate in Comparative Literature at the University of Michigan. She works on Greek tragedy and political theory, with a special interest in chorality, gender, and justice. Grace has taught English 125, Comp Lit 122, and Comp Lit 241. She hopes students leave her classroom not only with an understanding of course materials, but with a better understanding of themselves and a heightened capacity for empathy.
Grace listens closely to her students, and her example helps them really listen to others. “She told us what she wanted to see out of us, and she asked us what we expected of each other,” wrote one of her students. “That faith in us as adults to manage ourselves stood out to me, and her expectation for us to respect each other was something that nobody would let down."
