Imani Cooper Mkandawire received CompLit funding for an internship in spring 2020 at Weeksville Heritage Center in Brooklyn, a multidisciplinary museum where she collaborated on planning and coordinating workshops focused on Afro-diasporic cultural production that braid together art, activism and scholarship.
In addition to developing skills in project planning, curating, publicity, and design, Imani comments that her experience “propelled me to engage in multidisciplinary perspectives both inside and outside the academy and “allowed me to become conversant in a New York based creative scene with arts-oriented practitioners who promote alternate modes of scholarship.”
