Liang had 16 years of post-PhD experience in advanced semiconductor optoelectronics research and product development at the University of California – Santa Barbara, Hewlett Packard Labs, and Alibaba Cloud Computing. His work on heterogeneous photonic integration has helped generate several billions of dollars in revenue for leading semiconductor companies. Liang received his PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame, and BS degree in Optical Engineering from Zhejiang University in China. He has (co)authored 1 edited book, 7 book chapters, and nearly 300 journal and conference papers. He has been granted more than 50 patents, with another 50+ under review. He is a Fellow of IEEE (Class 2024), Fellow of Optica (formerly OSA, Class 2020), and an Editor of Light: Science and Applications (Nature Group) and Senior Editor of Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics (IEEE) and Associate Editor of Photonics Research (Optica) and Journal of Quantum Electronics (IEEE).
