Students majoring in any discipline can pursue a minor in Arab and Muslim American Studies. By pursuing the minor, students interested in Arab and/or Muslim diasporas can develop a coherent understanding of the cultural politics of being Arab and/or Muslim in the U.S. and the contributions of Arabs and Muslims in American Culture.
The minor program requires a minimum of 15 credits distributed as follows:
- One required survey course (3-4 credits): Any 200-level AMAS course
- At least two additional courses (6 credits) offered by American Culture/Arab and Muslim American Studies
- Two additional courses (6 credits) in American Culture/Arab and Muslim American Studies or in another department
- At least one course must be at the 300 or 400-level
- One 300 or 400 level Arabic course can be applied towards the minor. However, a 400-level Arabic course does not fulfill the requirement for a 400-level course.
- One course in the AMAS minor can overlap with one's major. In other words, only one class can double count towards both a student's major and minor.
