Marshall M. Weinberg

Marshall M. Weinberg (B.A., 1950) was a devoted alumnus and generous benefactor whose commitment to scholarship and interdisciplinary inquiry helped to reshape cognitive science at the University of Michigan. In 2014, he made a transformative gift — approximately $7.7 million — to establish the Weinberg Institute for Cognitive Science. His philanthropic leadership and vision laid the foundation for a vibrant, integrative future in the study of mind, computation, and cognition at Michigan. Above all, Marshall was a genuine and down-to-earth person who cared deeply about students — their growth, their opportunities, and their futures. His unwavering, lifetime love of learning and legacy of care continue to inspire our community. Our deepest sympathies to Marshall’s family and friends.
