Advising

If you are considering the PPE program, you are welcome to meet with an advisor as early as winter term of your first year at U-M for an informational interview. At the very least, once you have declared and been accepted into the PPE program you should schedule an appointment to go over your individual course selections and ensure you understand the major requirements. We suggest meeting with your advisor at least once a year if you are a student in the program.

Our advisors are comprised of a selection of the program's faculty.

From April 24 - August 25, 2024, you can contact our advisors via email at ppe-advising@umich.edu

Our virtual and in-person advising will resume when Fall term courses resume, August 26, 2024.

PPE Peer Advising

PPE peer advisers are PPE majors who help other students with questions about the PPE program. The nature of this help can vary widely; it can include advice about class choices or theme planning, or address questions about a difficult passage in a text for a class.

This service is a supplement—not a substitute—for meetings with the department’s faculty advisers, course instructors, or people in the Sweetland Center for Writing.  If you have a question that would be better addressed by someone else, you will be directed to the appropriate place.

You can get advice from peers via email or in person.

Walk in peer advising is available in the Philosophy Department office (2215 Angell Hall) at the days/times on this schedule

For advising conducted via email (ppe.peers@umich.edu); please put “peer advising” in the subject line, and someone will answer your question as quickly as possible. Advisors are free to choose whether to stay anonymous or identify themselves.

If someone using this service has any questions about it, please contact Judith Beck at phil-ug-coord@umich.edu.
