PhD Program: Mesopotamian Studies
Ziqing is broadly interested in the development of political organizations in early societies, Sumerian grammar, and multilingualism in the 3rd millennium Mesopotamia. Her research at University of Michigan is primarily focused on the Pre-Sargonic period. Ziqing completed a thesis about the Vase Inscription of Lugalzagesi during her M.A. Based on the analysis on the grammatical function of two Sumerian verb prefixes, this thesis discussed the chiasm structure of the Vase Inscription, then compared it with the general narrative structure of the Code of Hammurabi, finally argued the intertextuality between the two texts, which witnessed the continuity of the historiographical tradition centering around Enlil and Nippur in early Mesopotamia.
