The LSA Honors Program selects graduating Honors students, nominated by their department of Honors major, to receive awards for producing outstanding senior theses or projects or for overall excellence in their discipline. These honorary awards, established by alumni and friends of Honors, are named for notable individuals, many who have made important contributions to their fields of study.

Nomination Information

Each award requires a department nomination. Student self-nominations will not be considered. Departments initiate and oversee the entire nomination process, notifying students who have been selected for a nomination.

December 2026 graduates are eligible to be nominated in 2027.

Departments:  Submit nomination materials via the Honors Graduation Awards Nomination form

If submitting more than one letter for a student, all letters can be combined into a single document for ease of transmission.

If nominating more than one student, only one letter is required rating and comparing all the nominees and providing comments about their work. Attach a copy of the comparative letter to each student's award nomination.

When submitting theses for award consideration, please name the file only 'uniqname.pdf.' For example:  mdbrown.pdf

Be sure to review the award drop-down boxes for:

-Eligibility requirements specific to each award

-Nomination requirements specific to each award

Honors is required to post the following statements regarding student awards:  If a student receives an award or grant from Honors, it will be credited to their account through Wolverine Access. If the account is already fully covered by financial aid (grants, scholarships, loans), the award may reduce the balance of the loans or other aid. Occasionally, awards are credited without proper adjustments, resulting in an improper check or deposit to the student. If this happens, you may be asked by Student Financial Services to return the full amount. Please know that the LSA Honors Program will make every effort to avoid this situation. The financial aid package of every student receiving an award from Honors is reviewed. The Office of Financial Aid is consulted to resolve any issues. If an award cannot be given without affecting existing financial aid, the award will not be processed and the student will be notified.
