NCKS Conference Travel Support

The Nam Center for Korean Studies provides conference travel support for U-M students specializing in Korean studies who present papers at conferences in the United States or overseas. Applications must be submitted at least six weeks prior to the travel date.

Applicants should note that they are required to apply to Rackham Graduate School, the International Institute, and their respective departments or professional schools for travel funds before applying to the Nam Center. The funds will be paid as reimbursements of expenses in compliance with the university and International Institute's travel guidelines. Candidates must secure funding approval prior to travel.

Eligibility
U-M students attending conferences or other academic meetings to present papers related to Korean Studies in the US or overseas.

Deadlines
Applications are accepted throughout the year.

Amount
The limit is $350 per person per conference. As a rule, the Nam Center will support one instance of domestic travel per applicant per year. A second request will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Requests for foreign travel support will be considered on a case-by-case basis and may be funded at a higher level contingent upon funding availability.

Application Materials
Attach the following:

• Nam Center Student Funding Application (download)
• Additional funding you have received or is pending from other sources
• Abstract of the paper to be presented
• Letter of support from your faculty advisor
• Letter of paper acceptance*

*If you have not received the acceptance letter, you must indicate this in your application. Please note that you must submit the acceptance letter to the center at least two weeks prior to your travel date if the funding is granted.
