Lu Chen is a Phd candidate in the Department of Sociology, the University of Hong Kong. Her current research interests focus on the dissemination of foreign popular culture among the Chinese youth growing up in the relatively affluent and liberal post-Mao era, especially about the impacts of Japanese anime-manga (animation and comics) subculture and “Korean Wave “ upon the “80s” and “90s” generation. She is the co-author of “Media Institutional Contexts of the Emergence and Development of Xinmanhua in China", which is published on the International Journal of Comic Arts, 2010.
