CJS Noon Lecture - Drying Earth: Current Global Water Issues & Provisions, and the Possibility of U.S.-Japan Cooperation in the Field of Global Water Issues

A third of the world’s population lives in water-stressed countries. With increasing water demands, this number is expected to rise to two thirds by 2025.

Join Mr. Kazunari Yoshimura as he gives a general overview of global water issues and discusses the possibility of U.S.-Japan cooperation in terms of water treatment, water security, and disaster prevention. In his lecture, Mr. Yoshimura will also go into detail on waste water treatment technologies in both the United States and in Japan. He well discuss his experience as a technical advisor to the U.N. and Japan’s official development assistance, as well as provide insight into his work within the international community.

About the Speaker:
Kazunari Yoshimura has extensive experience in the sectors of water and environment, and is publicly known for his knowledge and insight on global water issues. Mr. Yoshimura served as a technical advisor on socioeconomic development for the United Nations in New York City from 1998-2002. Currently, he is President of Global Water Japan, a private consultation firm based in Chiba, Japan. Within Japan, he is a member of the National Committee for the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry as well as the Ministry of the Environment. In addition, he currently chairs the Water Technology Committee for the Water Security Council of Japan.

For decades, Mr. Yoshimura worked at one of Japan’s leading engineering and machinery companies where he rose to the rank of General Manager and played an integral role in internal corporate advisement. He is broadly published in the Japanese press and is featured regularly on all the major Japanese TV networks. He graduated from Akita University.
