About
Current research interests:
My research interests include Chinese Linguistics, language pedagogy and second language acquisition. I am particularly interested in pedagogical grammar and pragmatics.
Teaching interests:
I have taught Chinese language courses at different levels, from novice to advanced, and have hands-on experience teaching Chinese at the university level both in the U.S. and in China. As a language instructor, I approach my role as a facilitator because I believe that teaching is synonymous with promoting active learning. In the class, I provide various interactive and communicative practices in which students could actively construct their language rather than passively receive knowledge. I create a classroom environment conducive to collaborative learning to involve every student in the active learning process. I also believe that it is important to expose learners to the real-world language and target culture. Thus, I use authentic materials and task-based activities across all levels of language teaching to help students cope with real-world communication demands. I am also interested in adopting innovative technology and pedagogical approaches to make language teaching more effective and enjoyable.
