About
Professor Lin specializes in the literature and culture of premodern China, with special research interests in the poetry and aesthetic theory of the middle periods. He is also interested in early Daoist philosophical literature, the literary dream in poetry and fiction, and garden aesthetics. His books include The Transformation of the Chinese Lyrical Tradition: Chiang K'uei and Southern Sung Tz'u Poetry, The Vitality of the Lyric Voice: Shih Poetry from the Late Han to the T'ang (co-edited with Stephen Owen), and The Tower of Myriad Mirrors: A Supplement to Journey to the West by Tung Yueh (1620-1686) (co-translated with Larry Schulz). He is currently working on a book project on the Inner Chapters of the early Daoist classic text Zhuangzi.
