Kristin Carosella Memorial Scholarship
The Department of Asian Languages and Cultures is pleased to announce the establishment of the Kristin Carosella Memorial Fellowship.
Kristin Carosella was a member of the University of Michigan’s Class of 2013. During her time as an undergraduate, she earned bachelor’s degrees from the Department of Anthropology and the Department of Asian Languages and Cultures. She stood out among her peers as an exceptionally bright and engaged student, who constantly pursued her long-standing interest in Asian culture. Upon graduation, Kristin moved to Jinjiang, China, where she taught English to first and second graders at a local primary school until her death in September 2014. This scholarship was established to honor her memory and to inspire other students to dedicate their lives to living and teaching abroad.
The $4,000 award will be given annually to a student who has shown a great deal of promise, studied Chinese, Japanese or Korean language at UM, and plans to move to China, Japan, or Korea to teach for at least one year after graduation.
