About
Born in the Midwest and a daughter of a Mexican immigrant, García’s studies aim to uplift the voices and experiences of the communities that foster her identity – she explores Latinx Midwestern peoples' relationship with belonging through ethnography. Her work, situated within Latinx, Spanish-speaking Catholic parishes, analyzes the role of women within the Church. García proposes “pertenencia fluyente” to conceptualize the transitory nature of Latinx belonging in response to historical discourse that situates Latinx belonging in relation to dominant hegemonic frameworks of belonging.
García is also dedicated to documenting the educational histories of Latinx communities. Read more on a recent project of García’s in collaboration with Dr. Gonzalo Guzmán.
