Giving Opportunities

The Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) program is an interdisciplinary major in political economy hosted by the Department of Philosophy in collaboration with the Department of Economics and the Department of Political Science. The PPE major provides Michigan undergraduates with a rigorous, integrated, and interdisciplinary program of study that brings together three major approaches to understanding human beings and their social and political interactions. It integrates the study of the relationships of government, political processes, property, production, markets, trade and distribution from the standpoint of assessing these arrangements with respect to the interests and progress of humanity. Core courses will expose students to a wide range of analytical tools and research methods in the social sciences to foster the critical reasoning and rhetorical skills that are essential for philosophical writing and argumentation.

Your Gifts at Work

“Part of the appeal of studying Philosophy, Politics, and Economics is the breadth of the curriculum. By drawing upon three fields of study that are essential to contending with the world around us, PPE has exposed me to an interdisciplinary approach of acquiring knowledge, something I hope will serve me well as I approach life after graduation.”

–Cole Carnick, PPE Class of 2019

Ways to Give

PPE Strategic Fund (321156)

The PPE Strategic fund will be used to support PPE majors with priority given to co-curricular activities and enhancements to the PPE undergraduate program.

Named Visiting Scholar

Funding is needed to host a visiting distinguished scholar for one semester each year to bring fresh perspectives to PPE. We envision a highly prestigious fellowship awarded to a distinguished scholar in Philosophy and Political Economy, who would spend a semester on campus, teach a course in the area of her/his specialization and meet with students and faculty. Bringing renowned scholars to campus is a critical priority to establish PPE as a thought leader that stimulates and advances intellectual discussion and learning about the relationship of the individual, the economic environment, and the State.

Donor support is needed for a wide range of activities that will attract bright undergraduate students and enhance the undergraduate curriculum. This fund will also support undergraduate programs, travel funds for students attending conferences and national meetings, and participation in international summer internships. Support is also needed to fund civic activities that enhance learning and research about political economy.
