Olawale Akingbade and a research study participant

Graduate student Olawale Akingbade has received two prestigious grants to support his research in Africa: the Global Individual Grant from the U-M International Institute and a grant from the U-M African Studies Center. Both grants are designed to support students who plan on conducting research abroad and are extremely competitive. Congratulations on this award, Olawale!

Upon receiving this support, Olawale was able to travel to Nigeria this past summer and conducted fieldwork that will support his candidacy requirements. Olawale's research interests lie in language documentation, lexicography, phonology, and tone grammar. He is specifically interested in dictionary writing and grammar documentation for understudied and endangered languages in Africa.
