Pearls of Wisdom: The Arts of Islam at the University of Michigan exhibition to open Oct. 15 at Kelsey Museum
The Kelsey Museum has announced the exhibition “Pearls of Wisdom: The Arts of Islam at the University of Michigan,” which will be held between October 15 and December 21 at the Kelsey Museum of Archaeology. In conjunction with the show, a number of lectures, tours, and other events will be offered during the fall semester. Further information. Several images from the VRC archives will be featured in the exhibit.
The following three events may be of particular interest:
1) October 15: Exhibition opening and lectures by co-curator Ashley Dimmig and Sheila Canby, Patti Cadby Birch Curator of Islamic Art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
2) November 19: Talk on Islamic textiles by Sumru Belger Krody, Senior Curator at the George Washington University Museum and the Textile Museum.
3) December 6: Workshop on Arabic calligraphy by Josh Berer, practitioner of Arabic calligraphy and founder of the Society of Arabic Script Calligraphers of North America.
The exhibition’s print and online catalogues will be available by mid-October.
