About
Talitha Tukura Pam is a Ph.D. candidate in the interdisciplinary doctoral program in Anthropology and History at the University of Michigan. Her research investigates migration, diaspora, and identity, analyzing how conflict, insecurity, postcolonial legacies, and media shape transnational belonging and political consciousness among Northern Nigerian communities in the diaspora. Her dissertation, tentatively titled, "Negotiating Boundaries: Exploring Insecurity and Media Influence Among Northern Nigerian Diasporic Communities," examines how insecurity in Northern Nigeria has contributed to the formation of diaspora communities in Chicago and how their experiences are shaped by engagement with various news and media platforms.
During the fellowship period, she will focus on writing three chapters from her dissertation. The chapters explores diaspora responses to conflict through protest and digital activism, the emotional ties to homeland and loss, and how colonial-era legacies continue to shape identity, politics, and religion among Northern Nigerian migrants in Chicago.
