About
Casey M. Stark specializes in ancient history, and her research specifically explores Roman religion, women, and gender, often using epigraphy. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and taught at Idaho State University, the University of Wisconsin-Madison and UW-Milwaukee, and The University of Toledo before joining Bowling Green State University in 2018. Her courses at BGSU include ancient world civilizations, Roman history, Greek history, women in ancient Greece and Rome, and courses that help students build their skills as historians. Stark also chairs the Association of Ancient Historians Grants and Awards committee.
Professor Stark is examining the priesthood of the goddess Vesta in fourth century CE Rome. She aims to answer why priests of Vesta appeared and who they were using epigraphic evidence and prosopography. This research contributes to her monograph project tracing Vesta’s worship from Emperor Augustus through late antiquity.
