Opportunities Offered at Van Adel
At the undergraduate level, we offer:

In addition, we have a PhD graduate program in cell and molecular genetics of human disease. VAI has three primary areas of research: Cancer and Cell Development, Epigenetics, and Neurosciences but studies branch into other areas of human disease as well.
For students considering graduate school, we have several options:
- PhD track: degree conferred by Van Andel Institute Graduate School
- MD /PhD dual track: in coordination with Michigan State University (MSU confers MD, VAIGS confers PhD)
- MD /PhD dual track: in coordination with Western Michigan University (WMU confers MD, VAIGS confers PhD)
- Orthopedic, Internal Medicine, and Pediatric Hematology Oncology / PhD track program.
We offer:
* a curriculum that will lead students to develop skills in designing innovative approaches to current research questions,
* faculty that will challenge students with a rich mix of theoretical and practical perspectives,
* a small class size which ensures each student a productive path of study,
* fully funded for the complete 5 years while in the program with full health care and other benefits, plus we waive tuition
* a laptop to our new matriculates,
* $2000 travel money for each student September 1 – August 31st (each year) to attend scientific research conferences / workshops,
* thesis research (the heart of the Ph.D. degree) will take shape in a highly interactive and collaborative setting,
Our application deadline is January 5th - we do ‘not’ have an application fee! Those with a passion and drive to do research will excel best in our small, yet focused program.
Our unique downtown campus is surrounded by hospitals, universities, and other life science organizations. Our facilities offer an abundance of natural light, an open laboratory layout to encourage collaboration, a library, café, fitness center and a neighboring park.
