Apply for Fall Preview Weekend

Explore our PhD and Bridge Master's Programs
October 20-22, 2022

The Department of Statistics invites juniors, seniors, recently graduated students, and Master’s students to join us for a preview weekend event. We welcome applications from those who come from a background that is traditionally underrepresented in Statistics and/or if you actively work towards promoting issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM fields. This event is a collaboration with the College of Literature, Science and the Arts (LSA) and Rackham Graduate School.

This event is an opportunity to explore graduate education at Michigan, meet world-renowned faculty and current graduate students, and learn about life in Ann Arbor. During your visit, you'll learn about:

  • state of the art research happening at the University of Michigan

  • the admissions process

  • program funding

  • what graduate school is like and how it works

Preview Weekend events are open to domestic (U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or students with Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival status) undergraduate juniors, seniors, recent graduates or master’s students who have outstanding academic qualifications, show exceptional potential for scholarly success in a graduate program, and demonstrate promise for contributing to wider academic, professional, or civic communities.

To qualify for this program, applicants must also meet one or more of the following criteria:

  1. come from an educational, cultural, or geographic background that is underrepresented in graduate study;
  2. have demonstrated a sustained commitment to diversity in the academic, professional, or civic realm, specifically efforts in the U.S to reduce social, educational, or economic disparities based on race, ethnicity, or gender, or to improve race relations in the U.S.;
  3. have experienced financial hardship as a result of family economic circumstances; or
  4. are a first generation U.S. citizen or are the first generation in your family to graduate from a four-year college or university.

If you are interested in exploring our PhD and Bridge Master's programs, but do not meet the eligibility criteria to participate in Fall Preview Weekend, please reach out to us at! We would be happy to answer your questions regarding the application process and academic life in the department.

Please note that the application includes submission of a Research Information Form, CV/resume, a current unofficial transcript, and the names and contact information of at least one recommender. It is advised you submit your application sooner than later to ensure your recommenders have enough time to complete the recommendation form ahead of the deadline. The application will be live in mid-June with a deadline of September 14 at 12 PM (EST). You can find the full information for the LSA event at this link
