CID Lab: Research on Social Inequality and Mobility

 

Description of research project:

The Center for Inequality Dynamics (CID) hosts a research laboratory that helps train the next generation of inequality scholars. The CID Lab (inequalitydynamics.umich.edu) supports an innovative pedagogical approach to undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate education and has been designed as an inclusive and collaborative space. Current projects are focused on wealth inequality and its intergenerational consequences, the determinants and effects of social mobility, and the development of new data and methods to address these topics. Description of work that will be assigned to research assistants:

Depending on your experiences and interest, you will be matched to one of our ongoing research projects. Your research assistance may include literature reviews, data preparation and analyses, editing of manuscripts, and other stages of the social scientific research process. Through this work, you will learn about a widely debated and important topic (social inequality and mobility), gain insights into the social scientific research process, and learn how to handle data and present analyses. You must be must be self-driven and able to work independently and prepare weekly reports on your progress to be read by project members. Knowledge of statistical programs (such as Stata or R) will allow your further integration into data analyses.
