The Impacts of Policy on Human-Environment Interactions and Environmental Justice
Throughout my academic and professional pursuits, I have grown deeply interested in the psychology of human-environment interactions, as well as how individuals and organizations conceptualize sustainability, because I am passionate about exploring how society interacts with environmental issues. I plan on taking courses which explore how individuals, organizations, and social systems behave with respect to the natural world in order to promote sustainability awareness, organize community members and organizations to pursue climate mitigation strategies, and work to foster both present and future human development without compromising Earth’s fundamental systems.
Additionally, I am interested in exploring the intersectionality between environmental economics, policy, law, and justice because I believe in securing equal access to environmental resources, regardless of political or economic status. Pursuing courses which focus on environmental litigation, economics, policy, and inequality will give me a greater understanding for how best to employ holistic approaches in promoting equity and environmental justice. I am also eager to better understand economic and political strategies which effectively address growing disparities between individuals’ and communities’ exposure to environmental vulnerabilities, risks, and impacts because I believe it is important to ensure marginalized communities are represented and their voices heard.
