Algebraic Geometry Seminar: Abelian motives and Shimura varieties

When one assumes the existence of Grothendieck's motivic paradise (Hodge, Tate, and standard conjectures), the theory of Shimura varieties becomes almost as simple as that of Shimura curves, at least conceptually. In the talk, I'll describe a motivic paradise that has most of the same consequences as Grothendieck's, and I'll discuss what is needed to prove that it exists.
