Associate Director for Advising Operations
About
What is your advising philosophy? My advising philosophy is to meet you where you are and provide the balance of support and challenge needed to find happiness and success (as defined by YOU) in your college journey, and beyond. I want you to see yourself in whatever you are pursuing and feel at home.
What was your path to Newnan? I have been in higher education for over 20 years and have experience with different student identities such as undergrad, grad, transfer, first-gen, doctoral, etc. I have also worked in various roles in higher education and love the daily variety of ways to support my students, colleagues, and the institution. I was an academic advisor to students in the Landscape Architecture major at my previous institution for eight and a half years. I then moved to the College of Education, where I directed the Office of Undergraduate Advising staff that worked with Kinesiology and Teacher Preparation majors My path to Newnan originated from my Michigander heritage (Yooper!) and my desire to be a part of the University of Michigan - Leaders and Best!
Why did you join Newnan? I joined Newnan because I saw an opportunity to learn new things and challenge myself to grow creatively and professionally. The Newnan team is kind and supportive. There are a great variety of experiences, knowledge, skills, backgrounds, and identities and I love being a part of space like that. I could see myself as part of the Newnan team.
Class you loved and why? Dinosaurs - Lifestyles of the Big and Famous in the Mesozoic. As an English major, I didn't take as many sciences as some other degree programs required. I took this course in a summer session and absolutely loved both the course content and the professor. His passion for teaching about dinosaurs and Geology was infectious. The tagline on the syllabus was "Dinosaur dinners, dates, dallying, and domiciles."!
Interests and hobbies: Walking, running, camping, swimming, hiking, reading, basically being outside in any capacity. I also spend a lot of time with my two dogs, Olive and Shoelace. I love animals and have been observing them all around Ann Arbor since moving here. I enjoy organization and cleaning.
